Schedule

Day 1:  Sunday April 22.  We begin our inaugural Broadway Getaway with morning flights to La Guardia New York City, where upon arrival we meet our motor coach and driver to transfer to the Hotel Edison in the heart of Times Square.  From its beginnings as a 1930's Art Deco masterpiece, it has been a favorite destination for celebrities, movie shoots, and now Ozarkland Group Tours. The famed American inventor Thomas Edison himself was the first to turn on the lights at the grand opening, and in the decades since, the Edison has embodied the bold spirit and exhilarating energy of New York City.  Free time this afternoon to explore the hotel and Times Square area before our welcome dinner provided at the hotel to get acquainted and discuss our adventure in NYC.  (D)

Day 2:  Monday April 23.  Breakfast provided at the hotel.  A local guide joins us this morning and we see why no trip to New York City is complete without a visit to the Statue of Liberty.  More than a just an icon and monument, Lady Liberty stands with her torch in New York Harbor as a beloved friend and a living symbol of freedom to the world.  Also included is Ellis Island, where millions of immigrants first landed between 1892 and 1955.  In fact, about 40% of all Americans can trace their ancestry back to someone who passed through the historic gateway of Ellis Island. Lunch on your own.  This afternoon we will visit the National September 11 Memorial and pay tribute to the nearly 3,000 people killed in the terror attacks of September 11, 2001.  A place to remember the past and to hope for a better future, you will find the 9/11 Memorial Plaza is alive with the spirit of renewal.

After dinner on your own, we see a performance of Jersey Boys, a musical biography of the Four Seasons and winner of the Tony Award for Best Show in 2006.  Follow the rise, the tough times and personal clashes, and the ultimate triumph of a group of friends whose music became the symbol of a generation.  Far from being a mere tribute concert, this play gets to the heart of the relationships at the center of the group, with a special focus on front man Frankie Valli.  The core of the show is how an allegiance to a code of honor learned in the streets of New Jersey gets the group through life's challenges, and is a glimpse at the people behind a sound that has managed to endure for over four decades.  (B)

Day 3:  Tuesday April 24.  Breakfast provided at the hotel.  This is a free day to explore NYC and Times Square on your own: see the city sights from a hop-on-hop-off double-decker bus; discover the ultimate shopping experience at the likes of Cartier, Saks 5th Avenue, or Tiffany's; hail a taxi (Cash Cab anyone; use the local bus system or perhaps the subway to that world-class museum you've always dreamed of visiting; take a carriage ride through Central Park; or just stroll the streets and stores of Times Square. You will find countless choices in the area (from simple to gourmet) for lunch and dinner on your own.

Come From Away is our show tonight, based on the true story of when the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland played host to the world.  What started as an average day in a small town turned in to an international sleep-over when 38 planes, carrying thousands of people from across the globe, were diverted to Gander’s air strip on 9/11.  Undaunted by culture clashes and language barriers, the people of Gander cheered the stranded travelers with music, an open bar, and the recognition that we’re all part of a global family.  (B)

Day 4:  Wednesday, April 25.  Breakfast provided at the hotel.  This morning we board our motor coach and transfer to the La Guardia Airport, bidding a fond farewell to New York City and taking home great memories of our NYC and Broadway Getaway Adventure.  (B)you’ll get the full New York City experience from the comfort of our double-decker bus!
